Coleen Welch

Colleen Welch received her degree in kinesiology with a major in dance and a minor in exercise science  from Indiana University. During her time at Indiana, she performed works by Bill Evans, Martha Graham, Bella Lewitzky, Paul Taylor, and The Dance Exchange. After moving to Chicago in 2010, Colleen began working with Zephyr Dance and performed with the company for three years. Colleen has also danced with Ology Dance, Tapestry Dance Company, and Project 606 and currently dances with Dropshift Dance. She has performed at various Chicago venues, including the Pritzker Pavilion, Ruth Page Center for the Arts, Links Hall, Old Town School of Folk Music, Defibrillator Gallery, Hairpin Arts Center, Hamlin Park, and Holstein Park. Colleen’s choreography has been presented at various venues throughout the country.

She also trained for 11 years in acrobatics with Diane Gudat in Indianapolis. Diane is a faculty member, scholarship auditioner, and judge for numerous conventions and competitions across the U.S. and Canada and is the author of seven dance books, including acrobatics for the dance studio. Colleen competed in the Midwest with acrobatics as a dance student and mastered front and side ariels, backhandspring variations, and round off back tucks and layouts. Colleen has taught acrobatics at Indiana University in the pre-college dance program and at Extreme Artistry Dance Studio in Illinois.

In addition to teaching dance, Colleen enjoys teaching fitness classes and is a certified instructor with American Council on Exercise. Colleen is thrilled to be teaching another season at LAD!
