We welcome Melissa Peterson to our 29th Season faculty! Melissa is a dance educator, choreographer and movement artist who has over a decade of experience working in studios, dance companies and pre-performance programs. Her choreographic works in the competitive dance world have earned numerous awards at both the regional and national level. Most notably, her contemporary work “Amen” (2024) received a Judges Choice Award in teamwork and partnering, a Choreography award and 1st place in multiple competitions.
Melissa began dancing at the age of 3 and received extensive studio training throughout her youth. After graduating, Melissa continued her dance education at the University of North Texas in Denton, TX. Melissa received her certification in Progressing Ballet Technique in 2018 and incorporates its principles into the classroom through an emphasis on alignment, strength and injury prevention.
Professionally, Melissa has choreographed and performed with the Frisco Ballet, a non-profit ballet company, for the past 9 years. She also danced for 4 years as a company member with the nationally recognized imPULSE Dance Project, a modern-contemporary dance company based in Arlington, TX. Melissa is especially proud of her students’ accomplishments, many of whom have performed with collegiate dance programs and dance teams, including the world-renowned Kilgore Rangerettes.
Melissa is passionate about creating work and teaching in a way that challenges dancers to grow while staying connected to their artistry and love of dance. She is so excited to work with our LAD dancers this season!
